More About Me

about me
I'm just an Ordinary Guy married to an extraordinary woman. We camp, dive, dance, bicycle, hike, paintball, volunteer, cross swords and otherwise geek out together with all-nighters of "Neverwinter Nights."

General interests (in a non-search description): High-risk environments. It sounds odd, I know, but there's something about pressure that speaks to me. My day-job is in broadcast television and I'm a volunteer with Burbank Fire Department's Community Disaster Volunteers (CDV). The volunteer work stretches from light urban and search rescue to triaging mass casualty disasters. If this interests you, drop me a line (real name: Erik Day) and I'll forward contacts. Other than that, I'm a scuba diver, a writer aspiring to be an author (technothriller genre) and I love piracy, renaissance and just about any period fun where I can drink mead and sing rude songs.

Overview
Started at UNM as remote camera operator for academic television (what may be the most boring thing ever put on video). I moved on to KOB-TV in Albuquerque as a studio camera man, then worked my up through Video Tape operation, master control, studio and field audio, field camera (did the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and plenty of political and commercial live remotes), Chyron (Infinit), Technical Direction and eventually show direction.

Moved to Burbank, scored a graphics playback position with KNBC on Quantel PictureBoxes (and a "Cypher" CG), moved laterally to do some CG on their Infinit, did some fill-in work for Access Hollywood while working local, learned the "Deko" CG, eventually phased out local news with fill-in work with Access and occasionally Tonight Show work. Have also dabbled at KCAL (years ago) and Fox Sports World (more recent).

Technically competent, able to roll with changes... but now looking to broaden my horizons into writing and perhaps producing.
