Beautiful fountains on one end, neighborhood park on the other
I live across the street from Meridian Hill Park, and it's hard not to go there daily. The upper/northern part is a grassy mall with bordered by sidewalks and benches, and on weekends there is always at least one soccer game going on. In the center is a stage, and there are sometimes musicians performing there on Friday evenings. On Sundays, drummers from everywhere drum from morning till night, and you can't help but start dancing if you're within 50 feet. An Italianate rail allows you to look down on the southern end of the park, where several fountains shoot water several feet in the air, and water cascades down a terraced fountain in the center. Just south of that is a pond with fountains, papyrus, and usually some goldfish. Up and down the east and west sides of the park are shaded and secluded walkways and lawns for sunworshippers. Not a safe place to go after dark, though the park is patrolled 24 hrs by the police. Also, the National Park Service is taking years longer than it should to replace much of the crumbling park features. Still, if you've never been there or have just driven past, you will be amazed at how wonderful this large yet intimate park is.
