Decent 'Faux' French food
I've eaten at some swanky French restaurants and Bistro in both the DC and other city areas.

Sometimes I don't have the time or the money to eat at a true French restaurant, so I head to La Madeleine. I have to laugh that most of the folks working there are barely learning English (and they're first language is not French). But yet, I still get great service.

I recommend the Spinach Pouchette and the Tomato Basil soup for a light (yet heavy) lunch or dinner. I'm a sucker for good soups, I will admit. They are also open till 9pm and you can order anything for take out.

The pastries/bakery offers some decent breads and desserts. I suggest splitting one with a friend since they are twice the normal serving size. - Margot , posted 08/07/05
