I stumbled into this place while beating the pavement in 1976 and visited its former companion shop on the other side of Dupont Circle whose cafe (now a printing and calligraphy craft shop, curiously) was called "a confiserie." I visited much more often after it took over the space previously occupied by the Sikh restaurant, "The Golden Temple." The first thing _I_ thought was "food, booze, books -- what _else_ do I need" but it has always been an interesting place for social networking and off-the-wall conversations at all hours. Late on weekends there's live music, too. It should get historical landmark status (if it doesn't have it already). - Ernie , posted 09/24/06
