Grizz's Yellow House
Grizzly Bear is a difficult band to categorize. Some music sites classify them as "alternative", but that poorly defines the depth of their music. Especially since they use a variety of instrumentation: guitar (accoustic, electric, & steel), banjo, drums, stand up pianos, flute, autoharp, electric keyboards, & the such. Their latest release "Yellow House" is a pure aural delight. At times sounding like nothing you've heard before, reminiscent of The Moody Blues & Early Pink Floyd, or like a back porch acoustic jam. Some of my favorite songs on the album are " Easier", "Lullabye", "Knife", "On a Neck on a Spit", & "Reprise"...but the entire CD is very easy to listen to; taking you on a complex harmonic journey that comes off as very simple kinda Lo-Fi. These Brooklyn fellas are combining Rock, Folk, Prog/Art, in a way no one has. They are out & about right now on the West Coast. They will be In D.C. at the Black Cat on 3/4 and yep at Coachella on 4/29. A word to the wise: tickets sell out quick.
