HOW to get a tattoo & do it right
Dear Vegas,
I'm a big fan of tattoos and I've been working on mine with a great DC artist. All I can tell you is to proceed with great thoughtfulness cuz getting a tattoo is bigger than getting married. You can't divorce a tattoo. It's with you forever and it's harder to remove a tattoo (and more expensive!) than getting a divorce. SO, make sure it's an image/design that REALLY appeals to you - now and forever. Secondly, WHO puts your tattoo on you is as, if not more, important than the image you select. You want a tattooist who is experienced, CLEAN, sterile, and has a good measure of artistic ability. ALL equipment should be totally sterile, one-use, separately packaged needles that they open IN FRONT OF YOU! Here's a great article. Heed the advice: www.fortwayne.com/mld/journ...919350.htm
After care of your tattoo is really important too. Don't use any lotions with lanolin, aloe, petroleum jelly, or fragrance. Original or fragrance-free Curel is the best. Keep your tattoo out of the sun! Use a good sunblock lotion w/ SPF 30 or above. There's lots of web articles on tattoo care so READ, READ, READ before you make any decisions. Good luck and enjoy!
