Inspiration strikes again with a Sunset and a Saturday Hoop Happening this week. If you can make either or both come on out and play. The Washington Post is working on a hoop article so a photographer, Sarah will try to shoot some images if you are OK with that. I will bring sound and a cooler to each Jam so there will at least be basics.
Thursday July 10th Tidal Basin Sunset Hoop Jam 6:30 PM till Sunset
maps.google.com/maps
For Metro:
From the Smithsonian Metro walk towards the Wash monument on Independence cut left after passing 15th st and the Holocaust Memorial Museum through the playing field and go towards the tidal basin ( be careful crossing the street). We will be in the cherry trees near the open grassy area about in the middle of the parking lot. ( Basically this is in a direct line between the White house and the Jefferson Memorial on the East side of the Tidal Basin).
For Drivers:
Driving around the tidal basin turn into the paddleboat parking lot, there is a snack building and floats with the paddleboats. Park on the right about 1/2 way (200yards)
into the lot where trees boarder the grass area.
This should be a great area and time of day, sunsets over the water can be wonderful. I will have music happening in the grass and at least water. If anyone wants to be photographed this is a great time to get your groove on, and if not come and spin and we can let Sarah know not to shoot.
Saturday July 12th Rock Creek below Picnic Site 8 on Beach Drive
This is an unofficial event with no reservation for a complete picnic grove, so the space will be about 100 yards from the parking lot #8, south or downstream from parking. This is a shaded area in a very large grassy area. I will bring a cooler or two and a small music system. Bring hoops spinning things friends food or drink to share. Lets have fun, and Sarah should be here too shooting if you like. Roughly 11AM ish till 2:30PM ish.
The following are directions for car travel this is not very public transport friendly...
From the West take Military Road east from Connecticut Ave aprox 1.5 miles to the Rock Creek park Beach Drive exit on the right. At the stop sign on Beach Drive turn left then drive aprox a mile and site # 8 will be on the right. From the East take Military west through 16th St and exit into the park on the right sign says Beach Drive, this loops around to a left and a left onto Beach Drive at the stop sign, then it is a mile to site # 8 on the right.
The following map should show thw exit into the park.
